Frequently asked questions

What is Counselling?

Counselling offers the opportunity to talk about issues that concern us, in a calm safe and confidential setting.

It takes place between two people, one called the client and the other a trained professional called the counsellor.

Counsellors have been trained to listen carefully to problems, they are able to help young people take them apart and sort through them using specialist skills and interventions.

Counselling can help to make sense of problems such as confusion, anger, anxiety and sadness

At Eye to Eye all our counsellors are qualified, trained and experienced to work specifically with young people between the ages of 11 and 25 years.

How long will Counselling last?

Our counselling sessions usually last around 50 minutes. They take place by appointment once a week at one of our centres in Rhondda Cynon Taff or possibly at your child's school.

Counselling is ongoing whilst your child is distressed about their problem. It will end or be completed by the counsellor if this is no longer the case, or your child is able to cope well with the problem situation that brought them to counselling.

Your child can ask to stop counselling at any time and we will respect this decision. This will not prevent them from accessing our service again if they wish.

Confidentiality and Paperwork

All information we receive from young people is confidential. We do not discuss the contents of counselling sessions with parents or other adults, unless given permission by the young person to do so.

We ask parents to understand and trust us to work with their child. Our policy is not to hand over records unless summoned to do so by a court. However, there may be extreme circumstances when we feel that it is necessary to protect your child or young person from significant harm. Under these circumstances we will share information and seek the advice of other professional agencies.

Can I stop my child from having Counselling?

If a young person requests counselling we never turn them away.

Young people have the right to access counselling services if they clearly understand what is involved.

We ask parents to work with us and help their child overcome life difficulties, in work, school and home situations.

How do I make an appointment?

We have made our appointment and referral system very easy.

Just pick up the phone and call Eye to Eye on 01443 204551
